England have got a reasonably good chance at Euro 2012 but a lot will depend on how they play when they meet the big teams. They are probably going to have to beat two of the big four – Spain, Italy, Germany and France – if they are going to win the tournament and whether they can do this is going to depend more on whether they can muster the attacking creativity necessary that whether they are strong enough defensively. As a nation, our mind set in football has always been based more around defence and our national team is certainly better at keeping the opposition out than breaking the opposition down, which is why the appointment of an Italian as our head coach seemed rather strange. We can do the defending, it’s the attacking we need to work on. A Brazilian may well have made more sense, though in typical English fashion the FA will no doubt revert to an English manager following Capello’s reign with Harry Redknapp looking the most likely contender.
Our defence looks so strong primarily because of the wealth of options we have at centre-back. John Terry is still a great leader and defender despite his aging years while Ledley King is probably even better on the rare occasions that he is fit. Rio Ferdinand’s back problems may keep him out of the squad for Euro 2012 but Capello has a ready made replacement in Phil Jones, who is also Rio’s deputy at Old Trafford, while another of Ferguson’s young starlets – Chris Smalling – will probably start at right back in the tournament. Wayne Rooney’s suspension for the first three games is a huge blow but he’ll be back for the knockout stages and England should be able to get that far without him.
If you are planning to put a bet on England winning the tournament, I would recommend that you increase the value of your bet by combining ti with a bet on another sporting event, for example you could study the Breeders Cup odds and place a bet there. If you are planning to study Breeders Cup betting and use a wager on it to increase the value of your bet on England by creating a multiplier, I would also suggest that you do so online because you will access to a much wider range of odds than if you just go a bookies on your high street.
